Ronny Tobar
My name is Ronny Tobar Carreño, I am a comic artist and writer, I was born on January 6, 1979 in Santiago, Chile. Since I was a child I started drawing all the time, making this one of my favorite hobbies along with reading comics and watching classic cartoons on television.
When I was a teenager I enrolled in a comicsworkshop, where I made several friends and learned a lot about authors and comics that I didn't know at the time. This increased my desire to want to dedicate myself to drawing.
A couple of years later, I joined a young Chilean comics publisher called “Dédalos” as an inker. In that place I reinforced my knowledge of drawing and inking comics. Over the years I have participated in a series of publications and fanzines in which I have worked with various colleagues and friends.
My influences in drawing comics are very varied, from old American comics authors, to European comics, manga and old authors from my country. Classic American comics such as Felix the Cat, Popeye, The Crazy Cat and Bob Hope Comics have been of great influence on me, without forgetting other classics such as “Tales from the Crypt” and “Mad” magazine, and the cartoonists Jack Kirby, John Romita and John Buscema.
As I reached adulthood, new and varied influences appeared on my work, such as the comics of the Hernandez Brothers, Robert Crumb, Peter Bagge, Daniel Clowes, Seth and Japanese authors such as Masahiko Matsumoto, Osamu Tezuka, Katsuhiro Otomo and Yoshihiro Tatsumi.
I am currently drawing and inking the comic “Syd, The Frog”, written by Aaron for Trash Cómixs, in which I am trying to put all the experience and influences that I have been accumulating and developing over the years. I hope to give readers of this comic a good viewing experience.
